Dedicated to the memory of Sam Rogers

This site is a tribute to Sam Rogers. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

Sam was a trustee and dedicated member of the Lance Trust and would like continue to support the project through your donations. She was one of the first members and played a key role in launching and developing the project. Sowing wildflower meadows, planting trees, making signs for hedgehog highways, surveying butterflies and teaching young children like the village Brownies about protecting the local the wildlife. These were a few of the practical things she did to contribute to the ongoing development of the trust. Seeing a decline in bird species and populations since her childhood, Sam was keen to create habitats especially meadows and hedges to provide shelter and food for birds and native mammals, and to protect natural biodiversity for future generations of all species.

The LANCE Trust is dedicated to stopping and reversing the decline of wildlife habitats and species in Long Ashton and surrounding Parishes. They believe that, by working together, we can help bees, butterflies, reptiles, birds and mammals, restore habitats, improve the health of our soils, increase our wellbeing and help mitigate the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss.

They engage with many members of the local community, including the Parish council, primary schools, the local animal sanctuary and wider community to raise awareness and encourage action. So far they have created wildflower meadows, meadow banks, planted hedgerows and reforested fields and untaken surveys of trees, butterflies, birds and hedgehogs. Soon they will launch their blue heart campaign which aims to encourage local people to protect wildlife and biodiversity in their own gardens.
